Click on Post title to be taken to list website

Review two blogs from this list of the 100 best blogs for economics students. Make sure they are from different categories, and don't repeat one that someone else has already done. Yes I realize that this means you will have to check the previous posts to see which ones have already been reviewed. The sooner you do this one the easier it will be. Reviews need to include:
1) Content
2) Appearance
3) Ease of Navigation
4) Apparent bias

The blogs that I have chosen are the Economonitor and The Economic Populist.

The Economonitor is basically a blog dedicated to providing economic and financial intelligence for economists and the public. The site has a very neat and organized appearance, and has a great ease of access which provides a user guide. In the front page, it informs readers about the research, thoughts, and publications done by people who run the blog. Finally, I don't believe that the blog is biased because it lists all of the economies of the world.

The Economic Populist is a blog site that helps people voice their opinions or thoughts about economics. The home page of the blog consists of several discussions held by various people. The site is very easy to use in that it provides subheadings leading to other links and pages. Finally, the site itself is not biased, but the articles posted discourage the american economy.

The blogs I chose were Real Time Economics and Calculated Risk.

-The blog of "real time economics" talked about how people are happier now than 5 years ago. They were able to do this report in asking people if they had social support in the time of need and if they were able to make their own choices. the countries that cane top 5 were Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, Netherland and Sweden. The U.S. was 17th and Trinidad and Tobago was last. They said because they had a better economy that it is more stable and that it doesn't have many people dealing with mental health issue. Also the unemployment is at a good rate. My opinion is that this blog is not biased because the two variables are both things that represent someone to be happy with his country.

- The "Calculated Risk" is talking about the job openings and confidence of small business owners. He said that during the recession time in the united states that interest rate skyrocketed, so that it really depend on your credit for financing and the home equity rate. He talked about the negative decrease of sales of the owners business. I believe that this blog is biased because of this guy just focusing on one part of the small business the not the total of all the small businesses.

Bankruptcy Beat and The Economics Roundtable

The Bankruptcy Beat is a blog that lists the latest companies/people who are already bankrupt or who will be in the near future. The sites appearence is not pleasing and seems as if anyone could have made it. The navigation makes up for the appearance due to its "live" feed and the ability to comment and post to Facebook or Twitter. Also, each article's title is a hyperlink to the full reading making further information about each topic easy to obtain. It is not biased because it simply lists, with the main facts, the most recent bankruptsies.

The Economic Roundtable is blog consisting of more blogs having to do with a variety of topics ("blog-ception"). The blog is easy to navigate providing you the ability to search by commentator, however, the limited information about what the blogs inside the blog are about is quite annoying. The appearances is organized with three basic columns going down the page and has interesting graphs going down the right column. The blog is not biased because it does not say anything about a specific topic, rather leads into multiple other topics (some of these are biased).

I have chosen Dealbreaker and Businomics as my two blogs to write about.

The Dealbreaker posts blogs about business news, headlines, and financial gossip. According to the website it "covers the personalities and culture that shape the financial industry, offering original commentary, news and entertainment". The site itself is organized to where new posts are displayed in the front and if you scroll down it gives more details of the posts. I think that the blog is somewhat biased because while looking over the blog I did not notice any positive posts but rather they were almost all negative aspects.

Businomics is a blog that helps one understand the economy better. The appearance of the website is rather simple and it does not seem to have very frequent or consistent posts. The posts themselves are amusing. In one post a man is singing information to the public. As for the only bias the website pertains to is that it covers information upon only the United States.

The two blogs I reviewed were the Angry Bear and the Japan Economy Watch (because I have this strange bias towards Japan...)

In the Angry Bear, you'll find posts that are mainly about different pieces of economic news and the author's commentary on such. This minimalist blog is easy to navigate through, with the main navigation links (different types of economic news) at the top, a list of three featured stories on the right side (to see the biggest news), and the list of authors and contributors to the side (to make it easier to locate your favorite author). The blog doesn't appear to be biased, presenting logical commentary on different situations, both domestic and foreign (there's a separate link for global economics at the top). However, the blog mainly posts more domestic news than foreign, which indicates their bias.

In the Japan Economy Watch, you can guess from the name, you'll find posts dealing with Japanese Economics. From different experiments currently taking place in Japan to Japan's current population demographic and its effects on the economy, this blog covers everything you need to know about Japanese Economics. It follows the typical minimalist Blogspot format: showing the main posts floating to the left while different links are to the right (types of posts, list of authors, timeline, etc.) Those familiar to Blogspot will be familiar with this layout. Even if you're new to Blogspot, it's still pretty easy to navigate around. In terms of bias, this blog is made specifically for the Japanese Economy. That doesn't mean they're biased; it's just a separate blog people can use to research. While reading through the blog posts, the authors bring up Japan's demographics as a cause of economic strife quite frequently, more than anything else.

The blogs I chose were Environmental Economics and I Will Teach You to Be Rich.

Environmental Economics is by economists who write about the environmental and natural resources beneficial to the economy. Although this blog is said to be about environmental and natural resources, all the posts in this blog tend to go off topic and go on about other irrelevant things rather than stick to what it should mainly be about. The appearance of this blog is very plain and seems effortless; it looks like the creator did the bare minimum and just enough for it to at least look like some sort of blog/forum. The blog is also cluttered with advertisements and unrelated links so it adds even more to the displeasing appearance. The navigation is in a way unorganized, everything is on one page(the home page), but it does contain many categories and links that are provided to direct you to the certain category you want to view, although some of them aren’t environmentally relevant. I don’t think this is a biased site, it seems very open to any topic and is informational as well as humorous and entertaining, almost as if it were a social media website.

I Will Teach You to Be Rich is at first a website that shows a big display of the economist’s book that he is trying to sell. When looking into the blog section of his website, there is a lot of very helpful tips and information on how to become richer and manage your money better. Like for example, he posts a blog about setting goals, and many people responded with their goals and what it took to reach it. The site is very neat and organized, and has a great display of colors and has a good amount of creativity to it. Each section is categorized properly and you will not have trouble finding what you’re looking for. I don’t think this blog is biased at all; this blog is very open to other people’s opinions and discussions, and talks about many different aspects of being financially successful.

Freakonomics and Beat the Press

Freakonomics is a visually appealing and eyecatching blog especially with the incorporation of different colors, large and bold print, and various tabs at the top of the site. As soon as I went to the blog I was immediately drawn to the information that was being discussed. The headlines draw the reader’s attention. The blog comments on random and various facts like Google fighting obesity, or if professors are better classroom teacher. Personally, I think this blog would attract more people than many because it is pretty much gossip which is what people like to read about. It is easy to navigate because of the headings at the top that will take the reader to different pages. The bias is not very apparent because the comments are more facts than opinions. There are a few, but the stories have cited evidence or links that will provide facts.

Beat the press is an economics blog based on Dean Baker’s thoughts on the headlines of economics. He has not posted anything since a couple of years ago, but the blog discusses economic issues in the US and in other countries. Baker expresses his thoughts on different Washington Posts such as a financial crisis that was too dumb to recognize housing problems and the ignorance of china. The blog is not very visually appealing to the eye however it has bolded headlines which draw attention to the subject. It is easy to understand and navigate and I believe there is some bias especially since most of the comments are Baker expressing his thoughts on various daily Washington Posts.

The blogs that I have chosen are the Capital Gains and Games and Grasping Reality With 2 Hands

The Capital Gains and Games is a blog that talks about the current daily events that effects the economy. The appearance is a straightforward scroll down website to see all the recent posts with a basic navigation tool on the top. Though it is quite rather difficult to see all the posts in one page so looking for a specific one would require to use the search bar. Yes, there is some hints of bias in this blog in the writers responses and opinions but not a tremendous amount on certain posts.

The "Grasping Reality With 2 Hands" is also quite a straightforward blog. It provides much content such as highlights, recent events and information. The ease of navigation on this website is much more easier to handle providing any reader the categories and references to easily allow anyone to find what they are looking for. No, I don't think this blog is biased with such large content. There is not specific topic that is being repetitively put on.

The blogs that I have chosen are China Economics Blog and TheMoneyIllusion.

China Economics Blog addresses the important issues and details on Chinese economy. It discusses events such as role of supply chain, water resources, developments of Chinese economy, etc. The appearance of the blog is organized but not interesting. Nonetheless, the blog contains a lot of information and links on China. It is easy to navigate in the blog; the blog is organized and categorized neatly. There is no apparent bias; the academic scholars that have written this blog present a neutral attitude. They not only criticize but also hope to see the future economical development of China.

TheMoneyIllusion speaks of the problems with monetary policy. He includes other economists' words in his blog and discusses more about them. The appearance of the blog is organized but not interesting. In addition, it is not easy to navigate the blog because he does not label blogs by categories or topics but rather by months. This prevents people from quickly finding the topics they are interested in. There is a little bit bias as he believes that monetary policy is the core of the economical problems.

The blog that I have chosen are Ecological Economics and Planet Money.

The Ecological Economy talks about how to manage our ecosystem by mainly focusing on habitats and the mismanagement of our forests. In the the 21st century more trees are being cut to clear out for more land uses and resource such as rubber tapping and other things. But what people do not understand is that but cutting down our resources we are catalyzing the greenhouse gasses. And these gasses are destroying our ozone layer. In my opinion the article is biased because many people can still care about what is happening to our environment.

The Planet money talks about how the United States is the central hub of the world economy.Scott Mather, head of global portfolio at Pimco, the world's largest Private bond fund, explains that the government and institutions would eventually recognize that the U.S government was not going going through an odd, temporary bit of insanity. As a result their is a much more economic activity and more wealth in America than there would be anywhere. Finally, this site is not biased because this can have different perspectives of how people are looking at the American economy.

The blogs that I have chosen are Ideas and Manarin On Money.

Ideas is a modern blog from this year that contain anything that the author, David Friedman, would like to talk about. Recently David posted about the action taking place on Syria, and this post contains some bias in my opinion, it seems as if he is really against Obama, and has always been against him in any topic. The site id neat and organized and contains several links to browse through, and gives a lot of information about the author. The blog is easily navigable and isn’t very cluttered like other blogs. Many of the comments pertaining to the posts David made contain bias in them as well.

The Manarin On Money is a blog from 2010 that talks mostly about money, just as assumed from the title. The blog contains various economic topics ranging from the 401k, Stock Market, Taxation and even Real Estate. The graph on the Cost of Washington’s taxes and unemployment from 1795 to what it’s predicted for 2060 is really interesting to look at as well. The site is simple but has an easy accessibility to the topics you want to look into. Many of the post come with nice visual representations and again, the topic tabs allow you to focus on what topic interests you the most. Overall the blog didn’t seem to contain much bias, but some of the posts did have a little bit of the author’s bias toward the topic that they were discussing.

I have chosen Money and Policy and The Big Picture

First, The Big Picture is an excellent blog site. One of the first things I saw was the headline for Wall Street. I invest in the stock market. From what I already know about business and the stock market, Wall Street is very important for the American Economy. From the fist sight of this blog site, I can see that it focuses on the main aspects of business and money. It's very well planned as a site and gives the maximum. From looking at it, I see no bias and everything is very fair and balanced on both sides.

Second, Money and Policy is an okay blog site. To me it tends to focus on certain issues; especially Healthcare since the Afordable Care Act is of much controversy in our country today. The site is organized from what I've seen but can be grouped alittle better. Since this site is authorized by the New York Times, it actually has a liberal slant to it with liberal commentary. People who voice their opinions in the democratic way would have fun with this site. Unfortunatly the site won't tell all of the facts on both sides because of its bias.

The Every Day Economist: This blog has posts on such subjects as how much money banks should keep in reserve to the administrative costs of health care. The website has a clean interface but could certainly be a little less linear in appearance. It would be much more useful and easier to navigate if the author put similar posts together on separate pages instead of having multiple topics in one giant wall of text. The author seems to be knowledgeable about the subjects he comments on, but he is definitely biased and his tone indicates that he wouldn't be very open to criticism.
Economic Logic: The Economic Logic blog has dozens if not hundreds of short posts about various economic subjects such as how smoking hurts your ability to work and why the U.S. still subsidizes agricultural production. The website was obviously created with a web based editor and lacks a truly professional appearance, but it still is easy to look at. The addition of a list of topics on the side bar makes the website extremely easy to navigate. The author leans a bit too much on other people's work and definitely has a personal, biased agenda behind his website.

I chose The Atlantic and A Fistful of Euros(I like Clint Eastwood and Sergio Leone)

The Atlantic has a very professional look and appeal to it as well as an established magazine component letting people know that they are an established and reputable source. Their content is informative and covers all aspects of the economy but has a bias towards the US and Chinese economies because they are the largest in the world. The website is professional, UI friendly, and well written 8.5/10.

The appearance of the blog is very bland and unappealing to the eye due to its "anybody could have made this" skin. The basic webpage without flashy pictures or formatting also means for a very simple means of navigation to a non-cluttered UI. The content of the articles is informed but the amateur spelling mistakes can be distracting. There is a bias to all countries not in Europe as they are placed in one place titled "not Europe". The comedic title shows the authors bias to the rest of the world. Overall the website is above average with a grade of 7/10.

Economics Help & Alpha Sources

The "Economics Help" blog tries to simply economic concepts and answer questions to those who need answers. It is visually appealing and navigation of the page is smooth. There may be a bias towards European economies since all of the articles I've seen have been about Spain or the UK.

"Alpha Sources" concerns the world of finances and economics with an emphasis on macro. There is definitely some sort of bias going on here, as the author clearly states in his bio page that everything he posts is based on his personal opinions. The blog is rather plain and fairly navigable, but it does the job.

-Jeff Matthews Is Not Making This Up
-Greg Mankiw's BLog

Jeff Matthews analyzes the decisions of today's economists through their recent actions regarding their business decisions and council of advisors. Jeff does not hold back his opinions and is overall quite the sassy blogger. He does not fall short of sarcasm and is even rude and frequently insulting (unusual for the reserved personality that I assume all men who dabble over politics have). I mean, who is this guy to act like some all knowing being. You're not God dude.

Now Greg Mankiw is a man I can respect. Simply the picture on his blog makes him look like a little pile of niceness (no creepiness intended, he just looks friendly). Mankiw runs a "Pye" type blog that aids the economically uneducated in applying economics to real world situations. He doesn't use any fancy terminology and runs a pretty interesting blog being that he discusses wildly known, current, and frequently debated topics. Mankiw provides helpful information that would benefit all students and not just the ones enrolled in his class.

the blogs I have chosen are Data Points and Econbrowser.
The DataPoints is basically a graph, it provides the individual basically a visual idea of what is going on in the economy. For example today there is a video on employment growth which shows the rise in employment in real time. The page is very simple to use and it is no clustered with many different things all on one page. It helps to inform the reader on what the economy is doing through visual data not just numbers. I don't believe it is biased because it shows the economic struggles of many other countries as well.

The Econbrowser is a blog that allows people to say what they feel on today's current events, like the problems in Syria or other things that they wish to share. It allows people to share their opinions and allows others to counter them if needed be. The site is very simple to use and it allows anyone to come share their thoughts on the events that go on in the whole world. I don't believe its biased because anyone can share their thoughts about anything in the world.

Crossing Wall Street and Knowledge Problem

Crossing Wall Street is a simple yet solid blog with almost everything you would want to look for on the first page. The content itself is up to date with its latest update being today. The content seems unbiased statistically related looking at the graphs that are provided.

Knowledge Problem has a similar set up but lacks the design of the other blog that made it look professional. The content itself is concerned over news events that are updated a different intervals; the last update was September sixth. The site is easy to navigate. The content is more likely to be biased based on the fact that the author has a tone of voice and may be more likely to put a spin on facts.

The blogs that I have chosen are Cafe Hayek and Naked Capitalism.

Cafe Hayek is a blog that has very factual articles and videos from reliable sources. It appears very professional up to date with look and social media access. It is easy to use but the articles are very long compared to other sites and can be a pain to scroll through. It did not appear bias but instead had varying viewpoints.

The Naked Capitalism is a blog in which people enjoy posting funny politic jokes and apparently stories about cats and pictures of them. It looks like a normal blog where you can scroll through and look at others posts or share the posts/pics on social media. It is easy to navigate a long the page if you have time to look at all of the posts but it is hard to find specifics. I don't believe this blog is bias because it mostly was for humor.

I chose EconLog and Eclect Econ.

Although the content on EconLog is a bit squeezed together and doesn't maximize the whole screen, the content is organized by date, author, and category, which I find helpful for navigation. The content itself includes entries from different authors and all have a diverse range on topics that they cover from education to war and includes charts, quotes, and embedded videos. Lastly, due to the multiple authors and wide range of topics, any hint of bias is almost unnoticed among the several other entries on EconLog.

The initial appearance of Eclect Econ is a bit ratchet, since there are a bunch of ads on the sites and sometimes interfere with the main content. The content itself includes a lot of quotes or references to other works in the articles published on the site. I find this one difficult to navigate due to the many ads that get in the way and the unnecessarily enlarged text in the posts. Also it's hard to find other content because the blog seems to be linear in a sense that you can only read the more recent posts with. The posts are sometimes random and since it's one person's blog, it appears to dissect other works and quote things to satisfy the author's blog post in order to tell a message.

The two blogs I have chosen are Deal Professor and Economists’ Forum

The Deal Professor is a blog about the many acquisitions and mergers in the world. When first arriving to the site I was drawn to an article in bold about whether or not LinkedIn benefited its shareholders with recent sale of stock worth. On the site there are at least 15 different articles that I believe change daily and each have a Title in bold, cartoon, and a brief summary about the article. It is a very easy page to navigate and the articles are not very lengthy but and are straight forward. The site is not biased and tends to just focus on acquisitions of different companies.

The Economists’ Forum is a blog in which leading economists talk about important facts in economics. There are many articles about new ideas and much more. When opening the page there are articles written they go down the page for a while. There is no visual aid on the page just different articles and authors. The page is fairly easy to navigate; there is a popular article side bar, and even a search bar to look for certain topics. The website is not biased from what I read just gives out ideas on how economics can be fixed.

The blogs that I have chosen are MV=PQ and Cato Unbound

MV=PQ is a blog that offers many links to other websites that contain info about economics. The appearance of the blog is very plain due to the lack of pictures however the links it provides to other websites have many pictures and sometimes videos. It is very easy to navigate due to the links being easy to find. I do not believe the blog is biased because the content is very diverse in every category.

Cato Unbound is a blog site that contains essays written by various authors that explain what is happening within the society. The site looks very simple but neat and organized in that there are enough pictures on the page to make it look good and the picture in the middle is the picture that the blog of the current month is about. It is very manageable to navigate through because all the essays that were published are listed by months and have pictures about what was in the blog for that month. It also has a coming soon statement towards the bottom that shows which authors will publish their essays next. I do not think this site is biased because from what I have observed, the essays are about different topics each month.

The two blogs that I reviewed are Oikos and Vox.

Oikos is an Australian economics blog that focuses on the relations of the economy and the environment. The blog does, however, go to a certain depth about environmental policy and the economy. On the basis of journalistic timeliness, the blog does not seem to have been updated since 2011. There seems to be no set agenda within the blog itself like reporting and discussing events concerning environmental and economic changes. The author, David Jeffery, is lawyer working for an Australian governmental agency and who is studying to achieve a Masters in Environmental Economics, seems to be a free lance journalist who just writes what comes to mind. As a whole, the blog seems to be outdated and under managed. The appearance can be considered nothing but amateurish.

Vox, on the other hand, is an economic policy blog that is up to date showing timely posts and its appearance looks much more professional than Oiko. Vox also has more followers and participants solely having a section for users and posters labeled "People". This section is also large having an estimated 35+, or even more, names under each letter of the alphabet. Although the blog focuses on commentary on economic policy events, the posters and users have some form of economic background enough to warrant intellectual conversations within the blogs. One random member, Anzelika Zaiceva, has a Ph.D. in Economics from the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. Overall, Vox is a more impressive and popular, from the amount of people that are under the "People" section of the blog, than Oikos.

The blogs I evaluated and reviewed were "Robert Reich" and "10Q Detective"

The "Robert Reich" is a blog that clusters itself on his experience and knowledge of economics. Given his astounding credibility from being a professor at the prestigious UC Berkeley and even a former secretary of labor. The site itself is very clean and spaced nicely in a three column format. It is not as bloated as compared to other blogs which makes navigation relatively easy to use. A simple click to the Archives allows one to see everything organized by the date and in a orderly, organized manner. There is no such bias in this blog with all the topics he is covering over economy.

In the "10Q detective", it provides basic insight and the focus on minor and inconspicuous details that could have effectively changed the situation at the time and in the given event. The website is also relatively simple to navigate through with a 2 column system. The bigger, left column provides the recent posts while the right provides any additional details such as the references, authors credibility, and much more. There is a bias in way based on the way he evaluates it in how he perceives it.

My blogs include Economists Do It With Models and Citizen Economists.

Economists Do It With Models is a very fun read, incorporating anecdotes and tons of irony. The appearance is very casual with its occasional comics here and there. Navigation is nothing special but easy to use with just scrolling and the occasional hyperlinks. Lastly, I think the blog is fairly biased due to the fact that the writer tends to enjoy inputting his opinion and voice into posts.

Citizen economists is very standard and pretty run of the mill. Explanations are well thought out and kept very formal. The appearance is rather tidy with its divisions into categories but still a tad overwhelming due to the existence of so many categories. However, the categories make the blog very easy to navigate. A simple click on the topic the reader would like to learn more about gets him/her on the right track. This website is not biased, keeping things professional and leaving personal views out of its articles.

Thanks for reading!

The two blogs I picked are :Dr. House Bubble and Games and the Winter (Economic and Market) Watch.

My recent post has someone else favorite blog spot that I picked (Capital Gains) and so I choose Dr. House Bubble (sorry for posting three different times). It mostly deals with real estates markets whether it dealing with house value positively c or a negatively. The appearance is okay, but I have seen more interesting titles in other blogs. It is organized and easy to navigate though pages. I don't see any bias views because it is just focusing on home market values.

The Winter (Economic and Market) Watch has current events that affect the economy market. I like the organization and on the side, and the fact is has twitter posts. It has easy organization, and it has search that you can use to see events he has posted. I don't see any bias point. (It gives me another website and I didn't see any bias in there either.)

My two blogs were A Dash of Insight and Undercover Economist

A Dash of Insight is a very complex looking website with links leading into various insights on different economic topics. It contains very astute data, although it does seem to contain a bias towards anyone who says that they have a surefire method of getting rich, even going as far as telling his readers that his own praised methods and insights are not guaranteed to be true.

Undercover Economist is a much more pleasing website that contains very helpful links that are easy to navigate while at the same time. There doesn't seem to be any specific content or bias, as the blog posts vary from insights to government policies, economic surges, to describing a famous person who supposedly acts like a child when no one is looking.

The two blogs I chose are Economix and Footnoted

In the Economix blog, the posts you'll find are typically about causes and effects of trends within the economy followed by an explanation from an expert. The site is quite informative as it provides graphs of certain trends that are updated daily. The site itself has a more plain, conservative style so it isn't visually appealing. Though the Economix blog lacks a flashy appearance, it makes it up through quick, easy navigation. Background information about the authors is easy to find as well as other posts written by them. For the most part, the posts are fair and based off of facts, however, subtle hints of political bias can be found.

In Footnoted, you'll find posts written by Michelle Leder whose primary objective is to investigate the routine SEC filings of major companies. The ideas behind these posts are genuinely useful since they give investors a more accurate look into a company's plans several months in advance. The site is not very appealing and is honestly an eye sore since all of the posts are cluttered together while the titles are typed in large, bold text. Navigation was fairly decent though as it allowed the reader to sort through the posts without much of a hassle. There was bias in the posts, but not enough to discredit the author since there were plenty of facts to back up claims.

I have chosen Curious Cat and Seeking Alpha.

The Curious Cat blog offers a wide variety of content ranging from environmental effects on the economy to global factors that effect national economies around the world. There is often a graphical representation or table of information to support the claims made. The appearance of the blog is clean, easy to read and navigate, and seems to be trustworthy from the degree of effort put into its interface. The posts are lined in a vertical scroll area for instant access to the next/previous post and the feedback options are clearly labeled. There is no apparent bias seeing as though the poster is simply offering information, perhaps with some hint of advice within.

Seeking Alpha offers a large variety of content regarding stocks, strategy and money flow. An abundance of lists and graphs makes the content easy to understand. The appearance, however, is rather odd. It is organized neatly, but it is not necessarily pleasing to the eye. One cool feature, though, is a automated "top articles" list that is constantly changing in correlation with other peoples' preference. The navigation of the page is extremely simple. Every article is split into categories while the top, overall articles are listed at the top. There is a large amount of bias in this blog, but it depends upon which category you are exploring. Strictly informational articles are obvious, and vise versa with the opinionated ones.

The blogs I chose was Mish’s Global Economic Trend Analysis and Welker’s Wikinomics.

The Mish’s Global Economic Trend Analysis blog shares analysis for global economic trends by Mike Shedlock. Mike "Mish" Shedlock is a registered investment adviser representative for SitkaPacific Capital Management. The blog has a very organized appearance and is easy to use. Everything is separated into individual categories which includes tons of information. This blog is a little bit biased since the posts are mostly analysis by Mike.

Welker’s Wikinomics offers a collaborative platform for teaching and learning economics. This blog is specifically for economics student and teachers. The appearance of the blog is very clean and neat. There are also notes, textbooks, and videos available for review. The blog is biased since it voices the opinions of the authors.

Blogs: "Global Economy Matters" and "Economic Policy Institute"

Global Economy Matters makes up for its plain appearance with depth over breadth analysis of certian issues perculating into the world's attention. Like I originally stated, the website is plain but that works for Edward Hughes (the author) because it presents a more formal appearance that disiminates the content clearly. Navigation is probably not a strong point if you want to read into the back logs of post but if a person just wants to read the most recent blog post than there should be no issue. In regards to bias, Hughes makes many arguments that are clearly based from his opion, so any bias is easy to source, although the bias is not significant to confound the conclusion it may be there. Howeever the bias, empirical data is provided allowing for the reader to evaluate Hughe's conclusion himself.

In Economic Policy Institute, the reader is in for a well organized and streamlined formatting. Navigating through certian categories is a non-issue and a perfectly reasonable process. The content is extensive and covers a varied number of policy issues, however not every article is given the same amount of attention. Bias is hard to source because there are mutliple authors.

The two blogs I noticed were The Baseline Scenario and The Epicurean Dealmaker.

The Baseline Scenario posts various current events and news on a variety of topics. Ranging from intriguing opinions on college applications to understanding the market, this blog explains these details with enough connections for people to comprehend. The layout is a simple, single set of posts to read and comment upon. Alongside the ease in navigation, the blog would appeal to most economics amateurs. The clear bias behind the author's blogs are known and addressed; yet, the posts are understood and can be easily commented on. The posts have key points that stress ideals of economics and policies that are overlooked by the general public, which is a good stance for people to learn more about in order to learn more about economics as a whole.

The Epicurean Dealmaker is comparable to many diminished blogs that are not as active like when they were started. The creator of the blog have created a simple user interface that is like the Baseline Scenario’s, but the website features a more intense focus on the ideas it covers, where blog posts are more intent on covering aspects of economics for amateurs and the overall audience to comprehend. There is also an ease in navigation in the blog since it shares with The Baseline Scenario a popular word bank that can take viewers to posts correlated with each topic. Despite not having the ability to comment on various posts, the blog has a focus on assisting people understand economics as there are even related reading articles that the authors occasionally includes to provide more background information on a topic. There is barely any bias on each post besides the comparisons the writer makes with him or herself, which is a more professional and reasonable stance for people to see economics through.

Blogs: Financial Armageddon and Boom2Bust

Financial Armageddon is very bland, almost cheap looking and transfers you to a different blog that isn't as bad as the blog itself but still pretty bland. Content wise it is fairly straight forward and seems very much like the way Mr. Pye explains current events but just a bit more complicated. For what i can tell there is no bais that is extreamly noticable, it seems very news like actually.and the blogs its self are very easy to navigate but i dont like how it switchews when you click the "columns" button from the first blog

Boom2Bust rseems like a very radical blog in the sence that it is baided towards the "impending" crash of the stock market. also the blog design is terrible! I hate the cheesy look and navagating it is slightly confusing because content is put under odd titles so you kinda have to click and guess. NOw content wise it seems that they do have some good ideas but have just taken it over board and the chat room set up of the page is very odd to me.

The first blog I chose was the “Dr. Housing Bubble”

This blog spoke about the housing market. The most recent post underlined its main topic on the last few posts regarding the rising home prices. While the economy is boosting for the house market and investors, the rising prices will start to put a strain on people looking to buy a home. Before houses needed to be sold so badly they were going at relatively cheap prices. However, the market has been improving which means the expenses for your average American goes up. The overall appearance is good. It is plain but functional. The ads on the side are annoying but relevant to the topic of the blog. The website is also constructed well. It is easy to post comments and read comments. The creator of the website has also conveniently located several social media buttons to share the information with other people. The overall bias seems small and there are no apparent trends in other posts. However, there does seem to be a lack of factual information such as numbers.

The second blog was “The Hearing”

This blog was very well informed information on current economic situations and comments made by leading economists. The point is to help average people decipher such comments and understand the logic. The first post for instance was on the comment to “retire the 401(k)”. The author provided a lot of information on the matter and even included basic results from a theoretical experiment on retirement funds. The website is very plain though there are very few ads as well. Even though it’s not much for looks it does seem to be legitimate. The website is easy to use. There is a main page with all of the recent posts topics. This is a small so it is easy to see all of the topics and not get lost. Also it is easy to read and leave a comment, which is the most important aspect of the blog. Lastly, the posts don’t seem biased. Whatever opinion they present they have backed it up with a ton of evidence and factual information.

Blogs: The Health Economics Blog; Bankruptcy Beat

The Health and Economics Blog calls to attention issues and evaluation within the biotech and health industries. Although the blog’s theme is less than desirable, because its so plain, it calls to attention things that many Americans do not consider in their everyday lives, such as the article I read about the increasing price of cancer drugs in relation to their lack of effectiveness. I like this blogs overall message and the writing style of the author, but I think that the aesthetics and ease of navigation should be improved. The blogs has a bias towards the “little guy,” as many of the post sway more towards the individual consumer or to small businesses in the health care market.

Bankruptcy Beat covers everything from the demise of A-Rod to the bankruptcy of Eastman Kodak. Primarily focused, on top companies filing for bankruptcy in America, it makes dry economics semi-understandavle. The blog is very well organized and easy to navigate. Its bias is toward the everyday economist because the blog offers straightforward facts without the protection the media often gives to big businesses in order to protect their market value. With these facts, the average Joe can make smart investment decisions.

I read about the Becker-Posner Blog and the Infectious Greed blog.

Becker's blog was mostly about the two poster's opinions about current US actions in politics and world affairs. They use historical facts to pack their opinions. The layout is actually pretty boring and looks like a very average blog. It's easy to navigate, though, with a search bar and an easily accessible archive. I think that the blog is quite biased against the US, since a lot of the content is about how US intervention is bad.

Infectious Greed is a very interesting blog. It's not a traditional blog and looks a lot more like someone's twitter feed. A lot of little news and stories are tiles on the homepage, and people can easily click them to see more. The content is full of recent news that could have impacts on the market. I like it very much! Since there are so many facts and stories rather than opinions and perspectives, this blog is not very biased.

I chose Bronte Capitalism and Fly Bottle.

The Bronte Capitalism is about a blog site. The content includes: a man writing about his personal experiences with different computer companies. He tried Dell at first and talks about their drowning industry. Someone wrote an article on "Dell screwed up a good thing." His computer stopped working so a Dell technician came and already knew what the problem would be before the man said anything. He became furious, so he decided to switch over to Lenovo. Although they were ugly, they had good keyboards. He eventually had problems with Lenovo too and they didn't do anything. As for appearance, the site seems very user friendly and it is easy to navigate. It is also very easy to navigate around. All the articles were easy to find. The blog is biased because it offers one point of view many times and that person seems to have very strong opinions.

The Fly bottle is a blog site that has Wilkinson's opinions and he is a research fellow at Cato Institute. He discusses a wide variety of topics through his blogs which includes war, stay at home moms, and narratives vs truth. Over a variety of topics, Wilkinson offers a great insight. As for appearance, the site also seems very user friendly and easy to navigate. The colors of the page make it easier to read and absorb information. It is simple and quick. The site doesn't seem to be too biased as he tried to offer an objective view on different topics.

The blogs: Overcoming Bias and MacroBlog

Overcoming bias is a blog that is a very informal style of blog that talks about various misconceptions and their origins. It is pandered for both economists and non-economists and is easy on the eyes, and easy to read. The content itself is rather interesting as it takes excerpts of current blogs and dissects why the view taken is potentially incorrect. The ease of navigation is quite simple, scroll down. He has some bias on the subject of the future workforce, as seen by his prediction that it will be just policy meetings and managers.

Macroblog is a much more serious and economist centered blog, not wasting time with small talk and just gets straight into the data. It is painted with graphs and most of the discussions are based on information derived from said graphs. The appearance is fine, not hard on the eyes and it makes sense. The content is quality, and the bias doesn't really exist as it is mostly just showing data and giving some interpretations of it.

The two blogs I chose were Marginal Revolution and The Conscience of a Liberal.

Marginal Revolution:
The content of this blog focuses on the future and how little changes can be made to economic policies, government plans, etc. There are also articles on the most random topics. Appearance wise, the blog seems a bit plain and cluttered with too much writing everywhere. Navigation is hard to find (you have to scroll down a lot), but once you find it, easy to use. Although I see no obvious bias, from the articles posted it seems that the writers are very critical of the US government and policies.

The Conscience of a Liberal:
The content on this blog is mainly government and economics related with some random posts about the writer himself. Since the blog is part of the NY Times, the appearance is the clean, professional look of the NY Times website. However, because of this, the navigation is limited but functional. I didn't see any bias in his posts since he seems to look at both sides of everything including Democratic vs. Republican. After all, he does state he is a liberal.

Welkerswikinomics and Oikos
Welkerswikinomics is a sight that teaches viewers about certain aspects of economics and also provides teaching guidance and suggestions for teachers. I liked the sight. You are getting good information while also learning some fun facts in a relaxed environment. He is also gives a lot of good reference material such as charts and videos. The sight was moderately easy to navigate, and there was hardly any bias, mostly positive statements.
Oikos is a blog structured very similar to Mr. Pye’s blog. It was very easy to navigate, due to links on the right-hand side of the page and it looked good from an aesthetic viewpoint. It is focused on the environment and how it affects economics and policy in Australia. It did not have any bias views, all posts had specific facts and references that were nothing but informative.

The two blogs I chose are economics unbound and dollars & sense.

Economics Unbound is a site about tom keene thoughts on economics, finance and investment. I personally like the site because it is a more modern type of website. The website has lots of bright colors to attract each type of subject for each blog The website talks about the current events in today economy. It wasn't really biased even though the writer works for Bloomberg news.

Dollars & Sense is about employment, jobs, strikes and many more that has to do with work. The blog discusses about wages and strikes in today society. It also explains the us and global economy on the left side perspective. I think this website was very good due to its easy navigation for each blog. It is very biased to the left sidr

The two blogs I chose were BailoutSleuth and Grasping Reality with Both Hands.

BailoutSleuth: This blog is mainly about a U.S. government program called TARP or Troubled Asset Relief Program which purchase assets and equity from financial institutions to strengthen its financial sector. The blog posts include banks and other companies who are involved in TARP. Appearance wise, what I first noticed was that the latest blog post was from 2011 which means that the site is not up to date. However, the navigation was simple and the site provided links to other similar blogs as well. The blog does not seem to be biased; it just states the facts of TARP and bailouts.

Grasping Reality with Both Hands: This blog is primarily about offering a reality based look at economics. The blogger mostly talks about his own opinions on the economy and arguments/controversies that entail. Appearance wise, it is not that great. The blog site is just a plain site with confusing navigational links on the side. The blog is pretty biased with the author's own opinions on issues.

Jaison Mathew - 4th Period said...

The two blogs I chose were "Blocks Indicator of Sustainable Growth" and "The Big Do-Over". The link for "Blocks Indicator of Sustainable Growth" doesn't work and the website linked to "The Big Do-Over" has nothing to do with economics.

I am doing MarketBeat and Mises Economics Blog.

MarketBeat: MarketBeat is a Wall Street Journal blog. It is updated frequently throughout the data, and analyzes trends on Wall Street. It appears plain and simple, in a good way. Navigation is easy due to the layout of the site. There is a menu containing many important categories of news items. There does not appear to be any bias.

Mises Economics Blog (MEB): MEB advances classical liberalism, and claims to be "world center of the Austrian School of economics and libertarian political and social theory." The blog appears very well thought out, and navigation is also easy as a result. There is a daily section containing the most recent news, as well as a menu to navigate to different parts of the site. Due to the nature of the blog, the authors are obviously biased in favor of classical liberalism.

VisualizingEconomics and SEC Data Guy are my choices.

VisualizingEconomics incorporates a bunch of graphs to the data it's trying to convey. The pictures are very pretty, and the blog conveys their information in layman's terms, making it an enjoyable read for the economics enthusiast and novice. The overall accessibility of the blog is pretty tight. The information is not cluttered, the links are easily locatable, and tags are on the bottom of the page, making navigation seemingly easy. The blog posts themselves don't seem to posses any bias.

The SEC Data Guy seems like a pretty cool dude. His blog consists of plenty of graphs and small summaries about them, aiming to help those who are looking for some guidance on their stock market endeavors. The layout of the website itself is, once again, very simple and clean. You have your standard links on the top of the page, several blog entries, and the link to the next page on the bottom, nothing too fancy or complicated. This blog certainly leans towards the stock market aspect of the economy.

Grace Bonojo said...

I have read and reviewed Megan McArdle and SEC Data Guy

Megan McArdle is a blog that discusses the economic aspect of things ranging from global warming to romance novels. There are many topics most of which she discusses with the aid of guest post, however there’s a great deal of bias towards her beliefs. The blog appears in a list format of titles in order from most recent to oldest. The blog is somewhat easy to get around but sometimes it won’t let you go back to the list once you’ve picked a story, so it’s kind of frustrating to get around. The appearance of the blog is like a newspaper website which makes it uninteresting to me.

SEC Data Guy is a blog that discusses the stats and analysis of SEC Edgar Data. The blog is mainly data and proven information so there’s hardly any room at all for any form of bias. The blog is a pretty green background with clearly defined stories and really easy to navigate. I am not one to sit around and read stats all day but the appearance and ease in comparison to Megan McArdle makes this blog more appealing.

Grace Bonojo said...

I was writing my reviews as the post before me was posted to I will review another blog.

Economic Policy Institute is a blog mainly focused on things that affect the economy both in a big way and smaller ways. The blog includes areas of research and experts opinions. It's formatted in blocks of stories and tabs for additional information and there's hardly an room for bias in most of the stories. The blog is really easy to navigate and there was thought of how the reader would like to view things included in the appearance.

I blogs I have chosen are "Abnormal Returns" and "The Seven Scholars"

Abnormal Returns is a blog dedicated to providing information on the stock market and to helping educate the blogs readers. The blog is very clean looking without a lot of extra "stuff" distracting the site. I don't find the site necessarily easy nor difficult to navigate, because things are easy to find, but there seems to be too much extra 'clicking' involved to get anywhere. The blog does not appear to have a bias

The Seven Scholars is a blog that seems to have a lot of everything on it. There are posts ranging from "I take advantage of free rent" to "I bet the Oeoe gymnastics!" I like the appearance of the blog because it too does not have a lot of extra mess covering up the content of the site. The blog is quite easy to navigate and very organized. There is no apparent bias because the blog does not seem to cover just one topic, it's a wide range of everything with all opinions present.

For everyone who has yet to do their blogs: EconoSpeak, EconoPundit, Free Exchange, Economist’s View, Aspiring Economist, Adam Smith’s Lost Legacy, Aplia Econ Blog, Economics Revealed!, American Association of Wine Economists, Global Economics Watch, Crisis Talk, and Economy Watch are the blogs left.

Leah Ware said...

I chose Global Economics Watch and Economist's View.
Global Economics is a good blog because it gives a reader a good idea of what's going on with money in the entire world, as well as including plenty of charts and graphs to help display this information. It isn't very interesting in appearance, it looks like any other blog would, but it gets the information across this way. Again, like most blogs, it shows its posts from newest to oldest and is fairly simple to navigate. Considering the fact that economic information from around the world is being presented, it doesn't seem to have an apparent bias.
Economist's View puts events that are occurring within our economy in simpler terms for students. It's very plain looking as well. It's easy to navigate, however, if one was looking for something specifically, it could take some time since he has a hundred links to the side of the blog. I think there is also a slight bias in his posts because you can see him sticking his opinions in them.

Esther Amaku said...

The blogs I am reviewing are EconoSpeak and Global Economic Watch.

EconoSpeak is a blog dedicated to analyzing and investigating the economics and key economic people of the past and those of today to apply to our economic intelligence. For a blog, this site is very organized with the side links but it has some sub par graphics. It is very easy to navigate because of the side links, and also the archives. This blog is not biased because it offers a diverse range of perspectives on economics.

The Aplia Econ blog gives a modern twist to economics. It has very interesting topics which makes this blog very easy to read. There is nothing wrong with the appearance, but it looks a little plain. It is very easy to navigate with an archive on the right side. This site is heavily geared towards the adolescent group, but other than that it is not biased.

Other available blogs are: EconoPundit, Free Exchange, Aspiring Economist, Adam Smith’s Lost Legacy, Economics Revealed!, American Association of Wine Economists, Crisis Talk, and Economy Watch.

The blogs that I chose were Economists' view and Economy Watch

The Economists' View is essentially a blog that gives, thus the reason for the title, and economist's view of Government policy, roles, and major current events in the economic and governmental worlds. The appearance is very neat and professional with links to places pertaining to what he is referring to. It even has a table of contents, if you will, on the side for you to quickly get to the article you are looking for. Although the person writing the blogs, Mark Thoma, Proffesor of economics at the University of Oregon, tries to be unbiased as an economists should, he does tend to have some bias because he does input some normative statements at times.

The second blog I chose was the Economy Watch blog written by Frank Ahrens. The main reason for his blog was to inform the reader of things going on in the world and what effect they would/could have on the economy. For example, one of his more recent posts talked about U.S. exports going up, but because of higher imports the trade deficit was widened. His blog was also very organizer and professional and also contained a table of contents like area that showed his more recent posts and categories of his past posts so you can find one of his many original posts fast. Although he may have some bias, his posts contain most if not all quotes by other renowned economists and positive statements.

Ervin Ricasio- Period 3 said...

The only ones that were left (according to the my "cross-out" list), were under the category of educators.

The two blogs I reviewed over were Aspiring Economist and Apilia Econ Blog

The Aspiring Economist author is a second-year graduate student at an up-and-coming economics program in the Midwest. The site consists of a personal blog as well as an Econ Wiki. After being an avid reader of economics blogs for over a year, he decided to start his own. Ben Casnocha is one of his main motivational writers. He hopes to add a unique perspective to this realm of the blogosphere while connecting with other aspiring economists around the world. On the author's blog site contains his opinions about a different variety of topics. In my opinion some of his posts are either biased or unbiased whether he agrees or disagrees about the situation.

The Apilia Econ Blog deals with economic situations that happen in any local community. (Ex. sports, local grocery stores,, restaurants, etc.) The blog contains posts from many contributors. From what I am reading, it seems that the website is to practice identifying segments out of each post; making sure that we understand what is going on. (Appearance: An blog post followed by discussion questions to go more in depth .. Some posts also includes a visual diagram for better understanding) Again, in my opinion some of these blogs are biased and unbiased.

The two blogs I've decided to review are "A Dash of Insight" and "Bankruptcy Beat".

On "A Dash of Insight", the content here is incredibly professional and very well thought out while keeping a great editorial voice. While I am not a fan of the tags on the side of the pages, the overall design of the page impressed me very much. The recent articles tab and basic introduction tab provided a clean interface for navigation. The author seems to take a more liberal side towards his reports, but still gives fair ground to either side of the equation.

On "Bankruptcy Beat", the content here is probably the standard for all economic blogs as it is a subsection of the Wall Street Journal. The clean and concise appearance of the blog gives off an air of professionalism. The organization and navigation is incredible with neat tabs and a by date account of the latest bankruptcy news. I do not believe there is any bias on the reports for bankruptcy.

Jr Zolayvar said...

The blogs I chose were Dollars & Sense and The Epicurean Dealmaker

In "Dollars & Sense" employees of "bad" jobs are trying to make them better, by bargaining with companies such as McDonalds and Walmart for better wages. Research shows that with the labor movement declining "more and more jobs are 'bad' jobs". So the employees of bad jobs are just preparing for the future employees.

In "The Epicurean Dealmaker" the main topic is IPO's more specifically Twitter's announcement. The author explains that "every numbnuts and his dog" will hop on this opportunity. He also explains that IPO's are a bunch of baloney, yet many people do benefit from it and many also lose.

Francescha Rundle said...

The blogs I have chosen were "Deal Professor" and "Greg Mankiw's Blog".

The Deal Professor blog provides the viewer with different information about certain companies as well as lessons and solutions. The site is neat in nature with cute graphics for each article. A person who goes onto this blog only has to find the title they are looking for, making the navigation quit easy to do. The blog shows the most viewed articles, markets, and other news by sector. An apparent bias may be the fact that the site has a sort of sarcasm in its titles. Altogether, however, I believe it is a very legitimate place for economic students.

Greg Mankiw's blog has a lot of content showing certain economic facts, events, and plans. His blog doesn't really look as professional as other sites. Although it seems very independent, this doesn't mean it is unimportant or unreliable. For instance, his blog provides link to advice, textbooks, previous posts, and even a bio about himself. The navigation is easy with these links. There seems to be no bias with mostly factual graphs and news on the blog.
