World Clock

This is a repeat of an older post, but I still love this site. Check out the world clock. Click the Now button and watch the numbers fly. Do you see any trends? Any of the numbers surprise you? Leave comments on at least two of the items on the website. Check out some of the other features on the site.

World population is steady increasing, the birth rate is tremendous. I was surprised at the amount of the military expenditure, at which the price was quickly rising.

There are cars being produced every second. The birth rate is more than twice the death rate. I was surprised at how fast thousands of barrels of oil is being produced.

There is an abortion every second. The oil pumped and CO2 emissions are similar. I was surprised at the rate the military expenditures was rising.

The numbers of computers produced and population growth is at a very steady pace raising up. Surprisingly the car production falls very close to the speed of computers produced.

One trend that is apparent is that the half acre of forest being cut, almost doubles the amount of forest being replaced which is terrible. It is impossible to rebuild the forest if twice as much cutting down is happening than planting. Every 10 seconds someone is diagnosed with an STD/AIDS/HIV. I was surprised at that in a matter of 35 minutes two species went extinct and imagine that on a larger scale over a longer period of time.

Someone is diagnosed with a cardiovascular disease ever 2-3 seconds. Someone is diagnosed with cancer ever 6 seconds.

It's astonishing to see that the Earth's temperature is steady rising.

It's ridiculous that the prices of gas are still high with the number of barrels of oil pumped out each second.

I was very surprised at how much money is being used for military purposes, while so many people (335,203) have died due to nourishment.
Another interesting point is that our society is now completely dependent on computer usage. The fact that I'm posting this on a blog is an inherent example. The total internet users increases by almost 2 every second, about two-thirds of the speed of birth.

There are way more (approx. 700,000 more) injuries from traffic accidents than war, that's surprising/eye-opening... drive safely!:)

This is kind of personal, but it makes me sad to see the abortion numbers rise... i love children and people soo much that it's hard to think that so many won't get to live:(

Random:
The person behind this website: Went to Cambridge where he studied mathematical and theoretical things, studied experimental psychology, meditation and eastern philosophy, worked in computer science, taught self-development, creativity, stress management, and sustainable environmental practices... And he's an economist?????? This makes me think that to understand the economy and be successful you need to know people, not the economy. So economy is really an extension of psychology... weird:)

Surprisingly, the number of bicycles produced is three times the number of cars produced.

After six and a half minutes, only 12 people were diagnosed with diabetes, while 90 people were diagnosed with cancer.

It is surprising to see that for the first three minutes I was on the site, 30 people died of HIV/AIDS. Some people cannot understand because we cannot see the obvious effects of it, but HIV/AIDS is truly an epidemic in today's society.
Also, the statistical approximation that the earth's temperature is slightly but steadily increasing is eye-opening.

The Correlation between the number of oil barrels pumped and CO2 emissions grow and its effect on the Earths Temperature was not surprising. However, the rate at which the temperature increased was substantial. In addition, The rate at which abortion increased was also quite surprising.

One of the most glaring things is the military expenditure. Within a span of 2 minutes, it had reached a level of $5 million. I was also surprised by the amount of deaths related to non-communicable diseases within this time frame. There were about 60 deaths from cardiovascular disease and about 30 from cancer, which definitely shows that medical aid not only needs to improve, but needs to be used efficiently globally.

I see the trend that birth rates are double of deaths and abortions are steadily rising. Military expenditures are increasing at exploding rates with also oil pumped, co2 emissions. The huge number of abortions is surprising and also the total internet users. This website is very organized with the chart with a list of diseases and injuries that case death. I am also surprise that there are not a lot of death cause by war but there is a lot of traffic accidents deaths. The articles tab has a lot of interesting topics such as “science and conscience” and “spiritual awakening”.

I did not expect over 800 thousand people to die due to accidents. The amount of military expenditure is surprising, as is the the amount of CO2 being omitted. The world temperature is increasing (Proof of global warming).

Jonathan Cheung said...

I am very surprised at the fact that the number of abortions almost equates to that of total deaths for this current year. Similarly, the rate that barrels of oil are pumped and tons of CO2 emitted are pretty much equivalent, probably revealing a correlation between the two statistics.

Jonathan Pecson said...

The number of births per second are more than twice the number of deaths per second. There is a disturbing amount of abortions every second.

Jibin Kuzhippil said...

The steady increase of the earth's temperature was a shock and shows how rapidly global warming is taking place. i also didn't know the number of people infected with respiratory infection numbered close to 2,800,000 and counting.

Something that grabbed my attention was the number of deaths. The number of deaths grabbed my attention, but the way people are dying is the shocking part. To hear about people dying is one thing, but to, then, turn around and see the numbers is something else. Another thing that grabbed my attention was the number of abortions. It was shocking how quickly the number raised.

It’s weird to see all the numbers going for all the different categories but when you actually pay attention to what’s going on it gets depressing. The first thing I noticed was abortion and there are 87 abortions every minute which is sad. Also, the amount of money that we send on military expenditures is pathetic. The amount does not even start at zero for the daily. But on a positive note there are way more births than deaths which can cause overcrowding but at the same time life goes on. I think its funny how there are so many internet users in a day let alone in a few seconds.

Steve Tomy said...

What really grabbed my attention was that there were 256 births in a minute...620 in 2 minutes...thats crazy :D. Also, in 3 minutes 94 people died of cardiovascular diseases...and i was told traffic accidents cause the most deaths...i guess not.

Iram Nandolia said...

Deaths are continuously rising at a faster rate than death rates. For every 10 seconds the average birth rate is 45 and average death rate is 20, clearly showing a quickly rising population. Species extinct is the only factor that remains constant at 0. On average for every 10 seconds there are about 10,000 barrels of oil pumped (on average 1,000 barrels/ second), clearly showing a quick use up of the natural resource. Forests are also being cut faster than being replanted. Also, in my opinion the abortion average of 15 abortions for every 10 seconds is much too high!

I found it fascinating and disturbing how fast CO2 is being pumped into the atmosphere. That being said, the speed of car production and subsequent automobile emissions must play a large role in it as well.

Kate Whitsitt said...

There are more bicycles produced than cars, which puts into perspective of how different other countries needs are. Also, most deaths are from cardiovascular diseases, something doctors are capable of treating usually, and a comparatively small amount come from war and violence.

Samuel Lee said...

Looking at the date presented, one can easily see that at this very moment, more computers are produced than cars. Which is very surprising considering our active and daily reliance on transportation. In addition, more injuries occur due to car accidents instead of war, which may be astonishing but if someone were to take a moment to think about it, its quite realistic.

Sarah Hordern said...

I found it fascinating that in the span of a minute, over twice as many bicycles were produced than cars- and the growth rate was faster than computers manufactured as well! And the current growth rate is so above the current death rate- even if abortions are taken into account. In less than 10 hours, the world has increased its population by almost 90,000!

Rosemarie Tutak said...

In the past five minutes, I was fascinated to discover that the amount of births easily doubles deaths globally, and as a result, the world’s population is increasing by 730 people every five minutes. I knew that the population was in fact growing rapidly but I never thought it was growing that quickly to where the population grew 210,240 people a day.
Another eye opener was the amount of abortions that were in effect globally. 458 in just five minutes. Personally that number is just heartbreaking, I never thought that the abortion number could be that large, nonetheless be increasing so hurriedly.

Katherine Civitillo said...

Birth rates seem to increase at a much higher rate than the death rate, therefore resulting in a steady population growth. Additionally, as CO2 emissions constantly increase, so does the temperature of the earth.
Random: Most of the blogs on the website seem to root back to the power of the mind, and how past occurrences effect the present and the future. Also, there are many blogs about meditation and life

Christine Yick said...

what instantly caught my eyes was abortion. the number of abortions is increasing by second. as i was on the site for five minutes, there were 300+ abortions occurred.
Another eye-opener trend is the number of bicycles produced is three times the number of cars produced. There's many countries that use bicycles as their most reliable transportation. i was also surprised at the rate the military expenditures was rising.

As each barrel of oil was pumped, 1 ton of CO2 was emitted. I find it interesting that, today alone, 71 different species went extinct.

Steven Sookraj said...

I find it amazing that babies are being born so fast around the world. That means a lot of babies are gonna have the same birthdays. Another cool thing is that, despite the rapid increasing of numbers, the numbers of species extinct barely changes.
