Fed Chairman Game

Check out this game created by the Federal Reserve. It deals with exactly what we are studying right now, monetary policy. The game puts you in the position of the Fed Chairman, and you must manipulate interest rates in order to balance unemployment and inflation. Click on the learn more button before playing. Investigate the Fed Toolkit and the other items in the help section. After this play the game. Give me a short summary of your strategy and how it went.

  5. Wow, that was pretty difficult. I got it after 3 or 4 tries. It just takes time to get used to the delay.

  16. Ok.... I sucked! See! This is why I will NOT be an economist. Everyone should be thankful I do not have any plans to run the economy. If I did, we would all be screwed!

  17. Well the first time i was reappointed and the second time i was disissed... Go figure. Needless to say i shouldn't be running this economy any time soon.

  18. I suck at this game. The first time I played it was difficult to understand what was going on. The second time I thought I understood it enough but I still got dismissed. I'm going back to playing Modern Warfare 2 now.

  21. Took me about twenty tries or so, but eventually I saved the country. They better invent the re-do button for real life before appointing me.

  22. I failed about 7 times in a row, but I'm kind of addicted and I want to win!! Thanks Pye...

  23. I tried doing this thing about 10 times and I just could not get the hang of it. I got dismissed at the end of every trial i ran. I am so glad I am not running the economy. The dilemma that the Fed faces is hard- they cannot appease both the unemployment rate and the inflation rate.

  24. i'm such a beast at this game! NOT

  25. OK, here's the deal. I never lose. I'm either winning or quitting because its unfair. I quit every single time. Who cares about deflation anyway?!?!?!? It means you can buy more stuff!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Haha I had really bad inflation so I set the Fed Funds Rate so high it went off the page. Then just when I got the inflation under control I was fired. :(

    ReplyDelete
  27. I WON! not.

i played 3 and got dismissed

  28. I didn't get the hang of it at first but after a couple of tries, I got reappointed.

  31. I tried 3 times. The first two, I got dismissed for high inflation even though I was trying to make the economy tighter the second time. The third time deflation was ridiculous, I set the Federal Funds rate at 0, but there was nothing else I could do.

  32. I did poorly. I got dismissed every time! I tried to follow the advice it gave me about increasing the Federal Funds Rate to decrease inflation, and decrease it to decrease unemployment, but it was hard to keep the rates to stable. It's tough to run the economy.

  33. The first three times I was dismissed, and then on my fourth, not only did the market crash, but I was reappointed as a "Fed guru". Needless to say, I will not be running the economy anytime soon. It was fun, though.

  35. No matter what I did I kept getting dismissed. Hard to control the unemployment while keeping the inflation down. Eventually got into negative inflation which was bad as well.

  36. I actually did really well. I was reappointed the very first time. I might be less than stellar in economics class, but outside i have skill :)
